Variables and personalization in campaigns

Personalized messages where each recipient sees their own name, company, and role, instead of a generic mail-merge feel.

CLIENT-ONLY · How-To

Messages that read as written for each recipient.

  • A campaign with at least one message step

Pulled from candidate profile data:

  • {first_name}, {last_name}, {full_name}
  • {company} (current employer)
  • {job_title} (current role)
  • {location}, {industry}
  1. Open the message step in the editor.
  2. Place your cursor where the variable should go.
  3. Click the variable picker ({} or Insert variable).
  4. Select the variable. It appears as a tag.
  5. Finish writing the message.

  1. Click Preview and select a sample recipient.
  2. Variables show replaced with that recipient’s data.
  3. Check a few different recipients.
  • Variable appears as literal text in the sent message. You typed it manually. Re-add via the picker.
  • Variable shows blank or null. That recipient lacks the data. Use a fallback (see best practices).
  • Preview right, send wrong. Profile data may have updated. Refresh the recipient list.
  • Always personalize the first line. Generic openers tank reply rates.
  • Avoid stacking variables back to back. “Hi {first_name} from {company} in {industry}” reads as automated.
  • Write sentences that still make sense if a variable is missing.
  • Add yourself as a test recipient and confirm every variable renders.
